23w1d Bump in the road (Updated)

I was officially 23 weeks pregnant yesterday. For the past 4-5 days, I've been having continuous bowel cramps, followed by yellow discharge. My heart palpitations came back and shortness of breath is also getting worse. I decided to breakdown and just call the OB to let them know what was going on. Not thinking much about it, they wanted me to come in yesterday and so I did. I didn't get the greatest news, but it also could have been much worse. My blood pressure was 160/100 and pulse was around 150. They had me lay down for about 20 minutes and drink some water. After that my blood pressure went down to 140/90 and pulse went to 130. The doctor did a swab of my cervix to check for infections and that cam back totally normal and clean (YAY)! I was sent down to the lab for a urine sample to check protein, liver function, kidney function, glucose etc. I should have the results today. As of yesterday they increased my labetalol from 100mg twice a day to 200mg twice a day. We also sat down and had the talk about pre-clampsia and bed rest, plus the chances of the girls being born premature. We also discussed living rates for premature babies and how early they could survive and still live normal life without complications. She told me that they have delivered babies at 23 weeks that grew up with no issue. I knew this was a good possibility from the beginning. I am not going to sit  here and whine about what could happen or how I wish things were different. I am here and I am dealing with what is put in front of me. I did sit my husband down last night and talk about finances. Since there is a good chance I will see bed rest sooner than later, we need to prepare. Luckily I think we have come up with some options that will help if I am unable to work for a while.  All of this is still early and haven't gotten any results yet. Hopefully everything will come back normal and I can keep trucking along :)

I will updated when results come in. As for now I will leave you will my 23w1d bump pic and only 6 days until viability~!

UPDATE:

Great news! No protein in my urine!! My iron is still really low at 9.6 so they want me to continue taking iron twice a day. I have MFM appointment next Wednesday to check on girls growth and now they will keep closer eye on blood pressure. Happy lady :)

  3. The most important thing is to take care of yourself and your babies! Does your job offer any kind of help with disability? Or state disability? Hoping everything turns out ok for you!

    1. Unfortunately I work for a company that has 3 employees, therefore no disability coverage through them.

  4. Your resiliency and courage astound me! You attitude is always positive. I am thinking about you and the little ones. Would your work let you work from home part time if you need bed rest?

    1. Thank you :) I wouldn't be able to work from home. 99% of the stuff I do involves pulling files and working out of them. My boss is old school and therefore all our files are hard copies and not electronic :)

  5. Rallying time from the community for you, Al and the girls. I know all of this is overwhelming and scary. But I promise you are not alone in this. Yes, bedrest is hard and can be maddening. But I know your resolve on this. So lean on us (don't worry about complaining or expressing your fears). And know you are not alone. Let us know how we can shoulder some of this.

    1. You have been such an amazing friend and support system to me from day one and that means more than words can describe.
As you know, I am a problem solver verses an emotional thinker etc. I have a feeling deep down that regardless what happens, our girls will be here safely and survive anything :)

  10. Hi from ICLW!

So glad to read your update at the bottom! Definitely rest. I didn't really follow that advice when I got pre-e with my first son and, even though I made it full term and didn't have any issues other than high BP and dizziness, I regret not following orders sooner. I didn't realize until my last day of bed rest (I finally agreed a week before my due date) how stupid I had been :)

You sound like you have a great attitude about everything! And it sounds like your medical team is really looking out for you all :)

    1. Thank you Katie. I knew from the beginning this pregnancy wouldn't be a walk in the park. Mainly because of age and multiples. I have tried my hardest to prepare for whatever comes along.

  13. How scary this all is. I'm really glad to read that the results came back positive ... but it still must be stressful to have to process the possibility of premature birth and all that means. Fingers crossed that those babies stay nestled inside for many more weeks and continue to grow and get stronger!

    1. I truly think that the events this week prepared us that the girls will be here early, hopefully not to early.

  14. Whoa. It really puts things in perspective when you mention how they have delivered babies at 23w that grew up to live normal lives, and YOU are at 23w!!! Almost 24w now actually. You are doing great Tonisha! Carrying twins is definitely not easy, but you are doing the best you can to keep them growing and growing. Keep plucking away!
