Food for thought.

I know that so many of you going through this can COMPLETELY relate to what I am getting ready to discuss. Here we go.

I remember when we were first trying to get pregnant and everyone was telling me to eat pineapple core while in the tww. This is suppose to aid in implantation (FAIL)

I remember starting 81mg aspirin because this was also suppose to aid in implantation (FAIL)

Laying in bed with my feet up over my head like an idiot for ten minutes (FAIL)

Putting a tampon in after ejaculation to help keep everyone in place (FAIL)

Having sex in certain positions to help get spermies into fighting position (FAIL)

Acupuncture (FAIL)

Cut down on carbs (FAIL)

Exercise (FAIL)

Lose some weight and get BMI at 25 or under (FAIL)

Cut gluten out ( was going to try and now I am realizing I am done, so FAIL)

Pump your body full of progesterone (FAIL)

Cut out caffeine (FAIL)

No alcohol (FAIL)

No iubeprofen during the tww (FAIL)

No heating pads during tww (FAIL)

No sex during tww (FAIL)

Take a shitload of vitamins daily (FAIL) Now you officially look like a senior citizen and can prove it by your big ass pill divider.

I am sure that I am missing about 100 other things and please feel free to add something. Now after four years I have been doing most of this stuff. I absolutely refuse to put my legs over my head after intercourse. That made for an interesting picture once.

We all give up so much and are willing to try anything that has worked from a woman in a group or something that googled showed or something we read about. Well ladies I am done. I am not being Debbie Downer, but I am freaking done with all this crazy ass stuff. It has robbed so much of my time within the past four years and I am done.  For the remainder of our treatment, I will just go through treatment PERIOD. I am not jumping through circus hoops anymore like a trained dog.

Now this morning I am going to sit here drink my strong coffee, followed by a few glasses of wine after work and then I may have sex and ask my husband to pull out just to give mother nature a good laugh at the end of the day.

  2. I actually know an astonishing number of girls who were shocked by their pregnancies because "he pulled out!" So...maybe that's the secret! I've done almost everything on this list...as sad as it is. But if a friend's cousin's aunt read on google about a lady it worked for...why can't it work for me!? Sometimes I'm embarrassed by myself.

  4. The pull out part made me laugh as well! It sucks that you try all those things and not have a single one work. However, it is great to hear you say you are done trying all the "gimmicks" because of the following reason. Enjoy this life! Baby/no baby you have to make the best of each day and live A LOT! Enjoy every single part. It was the biggest mistake I made through my journey was letting life pass by.

  5. I've never really bought into any of that stuff. I feel like it helps more mentally than anything else. Proud of you for "letting go". That, my friend is a big big step! Still sending you lots o' positive thoughts and comforting hugs.

  6. While there's a ton of stuff that I'm sure falls into the "can't hurt" category (less booze, coffee, lower weight, whatever), let's just remember that there are people who get pregnant no problem drinking tons of wine and caffeine, smoking, eating whatever, taking no vitamins, the whole nine yards. I firmly believe if you've been doing any kind of treatment for a while and are still having problems, it's a medical issue that these little fixes won't really help. They're just things to give us a semblance of control over something that is really completely out of our hands. Maybe not a popular opinion, but going through treatment is hard enough without driving yourself crazy wondering if you've done absolutely everything (says the hypocrite who is currently trying GF). :)

    1. Hell I made it about ten hours gf, lol!! You are right though, I did try all I could and at least we can say we did it, but it didn't work and chalk it up as experience :)

  7. While it wasn't supposed to your post made me smile. I've done just about everything on your list. However you missed one point...at the 8 year infertility mark I was told "If you use OPK's you WILL get pregnant. You should try them" LOL...right. Thanks for the smile.

  8. Definitely need to add opks and charting :)

  9. Good for you!!! I'm sure you feel good and a weight has been lifted from you. It's so friggin hard. Listening to what everyone has tried or is trying. And then you think well it worked for them why shouldn't it work for me. I'll join you in the wine drinking...drink up and enjoy:)) oh yeah and don't forgot standing on your head...that's a good one!!

  12. LOVE this post!! It is soooo true. And beyond annoying!! My favourite was always "NEVER for the love of god! Should I drink ice water (which of course i drink non stop!) during my cycle and god forbid after transfer!! Apparently i made my womb a completely inhospitable ' environment!! In fact The first cycle i said screw that my ivf worked!!
No more hoops for me ever!! Good for you...the stress is ridiculous!

  13. Nice list. I hate to admit my list of Fails is getting longer and reading yours only made me wanna write them down and try it. HA! Way to encourage the newbie! Good for you going the 'letting go' route. Hopefully there is loads of freedom and rest in that! :) XOX

  15. I also tried going on a vacation (FAIL) and not eating any soy (FAIL), and wearing a fertility necklace every single day all cycle (FAIL). Now I am trying to just live my life and not go overboard with anything. I'm pretty certain that coffee, booze and tofu aren't why I am still not pregnant!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Exactly! I forgot to add vacation to the list.

  17. I just found your blog through life.love.jesus and i loved all of your "fails" because they have also failed for me ;)

  18. About a year ago I was reading a piece from NPR about the rise of children being born to couples who had no intention of marrying. When one girl said her daughter was conceived after consuming a pack of Budweiser, I knew I was done with the no alcohol, no caffeine thing.

I too have done a number of things on this list (replace the Diva cup for the tampon). None of it made a difference. So I fully support you not driving yourself insane anymore.

And if the pullout method works, I for one will be laughing hysterically with you. ;)

  19. Ha, love your plan! Yeah, I did all the cartwheels you mention. In the end I decided my sanity was probably more important ;)

  20. You just never know what the key is going to be, although so many things probably don't even matter. As always, I wish you the set of luck no matter what! xoxo
