First day gf

Well today is my first day of eating gluten free. To be honest I have no idea why I am giving this a shot except, it can't hurt anything and I have tried every other thing to get pregnant. This task is going to be very difficult for me because I am not a healthy eater nor do I like exercising (at all). Not sure if it is possible but I don't want to go crazy gf, maybe starter gf? I also guess I should say "pretty" close to gf. I won't be one of the people who exam every single thing that comes across my mouth at restaurant etc. I am mainly cutting out ALL breads, tortillas, pastas, soy sauce, some dressings (although hidden valley said their ranch is gluten free), candy (that one is going to be hard),processed meat. I think you all get the point. I am going to give this a fair chance and try it for at least a few months. Who knows, I might like it and I might lose weight :) Then if we don't get pregnant by our deadline I will at least be a sexy beast!

Al and I did talk a little more yesterday about the chances of us having a child decreasing. Even with the immune treatments, at my age and with bad eggs, without using DE etc. it is very doubtful we are going to get pregnant. I have started working on acceptance, although keeping hope that one will prove us wrong. I can say at this point that we have done EVERYTHING and I mean everything to become parents, within our limits. Today is cd1 and I will start Follistim with IUI this cycle. I have IVIG on January 31st.

  1. Congrats on going GF! I did it for the same reasons as you....to see if it could help lower immune activity in my body. Lots of research showing that gluten (and also dairy) are the two biggest culprits in causing inflammation and increased autoimmune activity....as I'm sure you know. I think you will end up feeling better in ways you didn't even plan for after a while of doing it. Lots of great restaurant menu options these days too. GL!

  2. YAY for GF! I have "almost" all GF for close to a year, as well as mostly all dairy free too. It feels amazing. Although it hasn't helped me personally get pregnant, I have read many bloggers who it helped them tremendously! YAY, Good luck!
    Boo for CD1... ugh!

  6. As someone who's been GF for a whole week, I have to say I haven't found it super bad so far. At some point I'm sure I'm going to want to kill someone for a baguette and brie, though. Good luck!

  8. My hat is off to you, friend. I couldn't do it. It has crossed my mind. Keep us all in the loop. Eat a lot of bacon. That's gluten free, right? Unless you're a vegetarian. Then don't eat bacon.

  9. Hi from ICLW. I've been gluten free for just over a year. The first bit was really challenging, but it was SO SO SO worth it. I felt so much better all around, lost a bunch of weight that had been hanging around since starting fertility treatments, and over all just felt like a million bucks. Make sure you still consume carbs though - rice or potatoes or corn. That's a common mistake people and all they end up doing is starving their body for carbs - which is not good and you're more likely to snap back if you're starving. I eat rice, quinoa, potato or corn with every meal to make up for the missed carbs.

    Good luck!

  10. How's it going so far? I know I would have a difficult time going gluten free myself. But as you said, what is it going to hurt? And it gives you one more thing to be able to know you have it your very best shot by trying absolutely everything. Don't give up yet Tonisha! I'm still hopeful for you, even if you arent!
