First OB Appointment 11 Weeks

Not sure what I thought of my first visit. I had a PAP done and lots of blood work. He also did an abdominal u/s with the dinosaur machine to check on babies. They looked like babies and were moving around. He said they had nice strong heart beats, but I am not sure how he could tell since the machine didn't have measurements or a heart beat sound on there. So no measurements or heart beat. I was a little bummed. We went over all my risk factors and since I am 11 weeks he asked what genetic testing we wanted to do . I told him absolutely no on the Amnio. I thought the NT scan and the mateniti21 was the testing I would be willing to do . They are going to try to schedule me in for NT scan but aren't sure they can get me in before 13 weeks. So if not, I will have to settle for the blood work version of NT with no u/s. I hope they can get me in. He is also sending me to the Cardiologist for precaution because of the shortness of breath and constant heart palpitations I am having. He doesn't think anything is wrong and just wants to cover all the basis. They are also setting me up with the MFM, but not until 18 weeks. At that point I will have a u/s through them to check babies out and also give me genders.

So any of you that know me won't be surprised when you read the following. I was not happy with my u/s today. I am calculated and need to know certain things such as measurements of babies and the hb. About 30 minutes after I left my appointment I called my RE office. I started off by asking how they liked the pie I sent then asked if I could come in for an u/s next week. She told me that they aren't legally allowed to see you after a certain point , but would check. I have an appointment for u/s on Monday at 3:30 two days before cut off at 12 weeks. Man I really love this office.

Here is u/s from today;  Next appointment is Monday with my RE for one last u/s and then May 21st with OB.

  1. Isn't the wiggling the best!!?? Wiggling is great news! I'm so excited for you. I hope they can get you the NT scan. That scan really helped calm my nerves. The MFM did mine, could your RE refer you to a MFM for a NT Scan? I think it would really help to ease your mind to get the scan. XOXO

  2. Yay for growing babies! I am sorry to hear that your OB appointment was lackluster. Not what I was hoping to hear. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you can get in for an NT scan. If not, I agree with Infertile625 about asking to move up the MFM appointment. They may be able to get you in for the scan. That or see if Al can work his magic again.

On that note, I'm surprised they are having you wait so long to see the MFM. Considering your history, I would push to move that appointment up.

Finally, I did not do the MaterNITI21 screen as I was below the cut off and my insurance was making a fuss. But I do know it is currently one of only a couple cell-free DNA test that can be done with twins. Big thing is to ask about what they can and can not determine based on the test (it's gotten a lot better, but there are still so obscurities because of twins). Another test to ask about is called Panorama. Also, if you do go forward with these tests, make a big deal about the fact that your pregnancy started as a triplet pregnancy. This is super important because if something comes up with the cell-free test that they don't see with the NT scan, you can make a good guess that the issue is with the vanishing triplet.

Write me if you want to chat about this. And fingers crossed for an awesome appointment on Monday!

  4. Such a bummer that the OB wasn't quite as calculated as you wanted. But hopefully through out the rest of the pregnancy they will be a little more accommodating to what you need. Hopefully they can get you in for the NT scan! Thinking about you, and I am happy to see such awesome pics from today.

  5. I wouldn't worry too much about the OB not taking measurements. They're trained to read an ultrasound and can detect a strong heartbeat without having the machine measure it. Also, I thought the NT scan could be done up until 14 weeks.

  6. I only did the maternit21 but opted to not get the NT scan due to false positives. The blood work gave me a great number and so I moved on. My doctor is awesome and super cautious, he is the one that told me he doesn't like the NT scan because he has seen too many that were wrong. I didn't need the extra stress. I didn't get the numbers on the hb until I was around 14 weeks I think. It is so hard to relax when we are so used to all of the monitoring but since I go every two weeks I tried my hardest. I'm glad the little hoppers are progressing so great!!

  7. It is so great how awesome your RE is!! The pies were an excellent touch! Still so happy for you tonisha and I am just amazed by you after starting to read your 'story'. I also think its extremely cathartic to write out 'life stories'. I did that once too when I was in therapy and it really helped. You continue to be so inspiring to others!

  8. Why did they do PAP? The hb were regular. Had they had any doubt, they would have told you.
